Abstract
Crypto-Assets: An Alternative to the Limited Financial Offer in the DRCThis article analyzes the adoption of crypto assets in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as a response to the persistent limitations of the local financial offer. In an environment characterized by low banking penetration, a limited supply of savings and investment products, and a strong dependence on mobile money, these digital instruments emerge as a functional alternative. The study examines the platforms used, user profiles, their motivations, and the associated risks. The qualitative approach draws on a literature review, an institutional analysis, and several theoretical frameworks related to the informal economy, bounded rationality, institutional trust, transaction costs, network externalities, and the sociology of innovation. The analysis shows that this adoption results from the convergence of institutional constraints, technological innovations, and social dynamics of use.
